Once Upon A Time

By D.C. Young

Once upon a time there was
a damsel seeking love,
who waited for her white knight
in her castle high above.

He roamed the chambers of her heart
and hallways of her mind,
but white knights lived in fairytales
and seemed so hard to find.

But then one day she tired
for her white knight never came,
so she just chose some other man
and hoped he’d be the same.

She dressed him in an armored suit
then set him on his steed,
but he was really not a knight
nor the man that she would need.

Then somewhere in this twisted tale
love met an evil force,
and when his armor lost it’s sheen
her knight fell off his horse.

And as he lay beside the road
love bled beneath the sky,
the damsel simply ran away
and left him there to die.

With happily ever after
as the ending not to be,
this fable once upon a time
the tale of you and me.
