Today we live within a land
of excess and abuse,
And yet when something goes awry
we look for some excuse.
We try to find some other soul
who really is to blame,
Then turn our shovels in the dirt
until we have a name.
You see it does not matter
if they own the blame we say,
The only thing that matters
is that fingers point their way.
Now somehow in this crazy world
of lawyers, crooks and clowns,
We all forget life happens
as the voice of reason drowns.
We eat our fries and burgers
never caring what we ate,
Then we sue the fast food maker
when we gain a lot of weight.
We fail to read the warnings
or directions that they print,
Oh God forbid we take the time
or even have to squint.
We’ll blame the manufacturer
in cases they contrive,
As lawyers move to sue them all
no justice can survive.
Truth or not they do not care
the richest are to blame,
It’s all about the money so
extortion wins the game.
And when we cannot cope with life
we blame our mom and dad,
Or blame our education
on the teachers that we had.
Now if a man lacks common sense
it’s really not his fault,
As even simple acts of God
now fall in this assault.
Why is no man responsible
for what they say or do,
Why is it always someone’s fault
but never is it you.
The truth is now a casualty
it’s meaning lost in war,
It slowly died beneath the lies
and lives today no more.
I watch our social fabric
as it’s sadly ripped away,
But I don’t know who’s fault that is
so I’ll just blame the day.

Excellent! This is the first poem of yours that I have read. It won’t be the last.
